BlephEx™ : How To Get Rid Of  Sore, Red Eyelids

Comments Off on BlephEx™ : How To Get Rid Of  Sore, Red Eyelids

BlephEx™ is a revolutionary new patented hand piece, used to very precisely and carefully, spin a medical grade micro-sponge along the edge of your eyelids and lashes, removing scurf and debris and exfoliating your eyelids.

What is Blepharitis?

Blepharitis is a chronic, inflammatory disease of the eyelids caused by an overgrowth of normal bacteria living along the lid and the base of the eyelashes. Anyone can get blepharitis at any age, but the prevalence increases with age, since as we get older, we make fewer natural antibodies in our tears.

This overgrowth of bacteria produces a biofilm that traps scurf and debris along the eyelashes and harbours bacterial exotoxins along the lid margin. These exotoxins penetrate the eyelid tissue causing low-grade inflammation which adversely affects the tear glands, turning down tear production. Fewer tears containing fewer antibodies allow even more bacteria accumulate and a vicious cycle is established, leading to chronic irritation and dry eye.
Since the eyelids are difficult to clean, this overgrowth of bacteria, biofilm, scurf and debris can accumulate over many years, and the exotoxin-induced inflammation can cause significant damage to the eyelid and tear glands.
Now, thanks to BlephEx™, your eye doctor can precisely and safely, clean and exfoliate your eyelids and lashes, which will almost immediately improve your symptoms. More importantly, by completely removing the exotoxin-laden biofilm along the lid margin, your doctor can help you avoid the long-term inflammatory damage to your tear glands, preventing chronic dry eye syndrome.

Surgeons remove 27 contact lenses from woman’s eye

A 67-year-old woman has had 27 contact lenses removed from one eye.

The discovery was made after the woman went to Solihull hospital in the West Midlands for routine cataract surgery.

In a report for the British Medical Journal (BMJ), experts from the hospital said “a bluish foreign body” emerged during the procedure “as a hard mass of 17 contact lenses bound together by mucus”.

Ten more were found under further examination.

The experts wrote: “The patient had worn monthly disposable lenses for 35 years. She had poorer vision in the right eye and deep-set eyes, which might have contributed to the unusually large number of retained foreign bodies.”

Rupal Morjaria, a specialist trainee in ophthalmology, told Optometry Today: “None of us have ever seen this before.

“It was such a large mass. All the 17 contact lenses were stuck together.

“We were really surprised that the patient didn’t notice it because it would cause quite a lot of irritation while it was sitting there.

“She was quite shocked. She thought her previous discomfort was just part of old age and dry eye.”

At Eye Contact, if you’re eyes are suitable for contact lenses, we will dedicate a session to teaching you how to insert and remove your lenses and how to keep your eyes healthy with regular contact lens use, all included in the price of an assessment.

Comments Off on Snapchat spectacles now available in London

Snapchat maker Snap Inc. has officially launched its branded smartglasses in Europe, with the company raising the curtains on web orders for “Spectacles” from European customers.

“Snapbot” vending machines have also been set up in select European cities—including Paris, Venice, Berlin, London and Barcelona—with Snap selling the smartglasses to consumers in major European countries for €149.99 or £129.99 (almost $170), reports Variety.

The camera-enabled sunglasses are equipped with video recording capabilities, allowing users to capture 10-second long clips and then share them on Snapchat, so that wearers can stay constantly connected and film real-time, circular videos of their everyday lives.

Unfortunately, the location of the vending machine has not been made public, so please get in touch if you see it.

Netflix’s CEO is willing to stream movies to smart contact lens

Comments Off on Netflix’s CEO is willing to stream movies to smart contact lens

Your future Netflix binge sessions could be beamed directly to your eye via a smart contact lens, and the co-founder of the company is all about it.

“If virtual reality takes off, we’ll adapt to that. If it becomes contact lenses that have amazing powers, we’ll adapt to that,” said Netflix CEO Reed Hastings at MWC 2017.

Netflix-capable contact lenses are theoretical today and not ready for prime time. We haven’t seen smart contact lens prototypes outside of dozens of sci-fi movies – many of which are on Netflix itself.

However, the thought of projecting video onto a contact lens is an idea that’s been talked about before, when industry leaders have speculated about the future of mobile. It’s a recurring topic.

What’s important is that Netflix has the willingness to follow new technology trends, according to the keynote comments by Hastings, who naturally cited Black Mirror in his comments.

“Charlie Brooker is a UK film maker who has done Black Mirror for us,” he said. “In Black Mirror, he tells many strange and wonderful speculations on technology.”

“What we do is try to learn and adapt, rather than just try to commit to view of what’s going to happen. We’re very flexible and we learn as we go.”
